Limerick County Council and a number of stakeholders including the HSE and Healthy Ireland asked Southern to design a concept promoting an environment where it is easier for those who smoke to quit and stay quit, and to help denormalise smoking for the next generation.

Not Around Us
The ‘Not Around Us Campaign’ is an example of how far a strong strategy can carry an idea.
We worked with Limerick Comhairle na nÓg in the creative phase of this design, involving young people and making sure the campaign spoke to them and for them.
Limerick Comhairle na nÓg were subsequently awarded a Gold Medal by the World Health Organisation at the ‘World No Tobacco Day Awards’ for their involvement in the campaign. Signage with the finished design was installed in parks, playgrounds and common areas, across Limerick and also served to protect children and young people from second-hand smoke exposure.
The campaign was a success and Healthy Ireland decided to roll ‘Not Around Us’ out nationally so that parks, playgrounds, clubs, and other public areas could apply to receive the signage and other collateral including an animated ‘Not Around Us’ partner video.
We also paired with over 200 Healthy Ireland GAA clubs, creating tailored signage, posters and video for them, encouraging clubs to become smoke free.

Dublin off the Dart
In 2013 Southern had an idea and developed a strategy to promote and animate the coastline of Dublin and its necklace of villages as a new tourist trail for visitors. Working with Failte Ireland and Irish Rail over a number of years, we produced four issues of what has become a very popular tourist publication; Dublin off the Dart.
The project was complex, involving the management of multiple stakeholders across the tourism sector and business interests in the towns and villages along the route. This allowed us to give the content we created in both the publication and the social media campaigns that followed it, real character.
Meeting and speaking to such an array of locals, business owners and tourists around these coastal towns and villages, allowed us to share a nuanced, unseen side of Dublin.
We managed a series of public relations initiatives alongside our social media campaign, including a long segment with John Murray on his RTE Radio 1 morning show.
John travelled with Dave O’Hora along the tourist line from Greystones to Malahide, exploring the many highlights featured in the guide.
