Climate Action Plan

With the support of the Heritage Office of Laois County Council and Creative Ireland Laois, Dr Niamh (a science Communicator & resident in Abbeyleix) worked with Abbeyleix Tidy Towns to explore innovative ways to interact the community about climate change.

Portlaoise hope to present a distinctive way to transform the town into Ireland’s first ‘Low Carbon Town Centre’ by lessen the impact of car use on the public realm.

They aim to encourage the community to travel by walking or cycling, in order to build on the overall environmental quality.

The Project Ireland 2040 National Planning Framework recognises Portlaoise as a national corroboration project on how sustainability and low carbon evolution can be executed at grass-roots level.

“We plan to re-purpose existing buildings reduces the carbon footprint created by new builds.”
